When you walk into your middle school robotics class on a Wednesday morning, your biggest expectation is probably building a basic circuit board or coding a simple computer program.
You absolutely do not expect the Laredo Police Department SWAT Team to completely take over the library with high tech drones and a mechanical robotic dog.
The Special Operations Group just dropped into Cigarroa Middle School to give the future generation a raw, firsthand look at exactly how they hunt down suspects and secure the 956.

📅 THE TIMELINE: A DETECTIVES BREAKDOWN OF A TACTICAL SHOWCASE
To understand how wild this demonstration was, you have to look at the exact arsenal the department brought into the school.
- Wednesday Morning (The Deployment): Instead of a regular textbook lecture, students got a front row seat to a massive tactical showcase. The Intel Unit deployed their advanced drones, showing the kids exactly how they provide critical air support to officers actively hunting targets on the ground.
- The Robotic K-9: They did not just bring screens and controllers. The Special Operations Group brought out Raptor, the official LPD robodog. Students watched the mechanical beast get deployed, proving that the future of clearing dangerous rooms and handling special operations is completely robotic.
🔎 THE FORENSICS: THE ELECTRONIC SNIFFING DETECTIVE
While Raptor handled the robotics side, the department also brought out the ultimate biological weapon for digital crimes.
The K-9 Unit: Students were introduced to K-9 Officer Onyx. But Onyx is not your average police dog searching for narcotics. Onyx is a highly specialized electronics storage detection dog.
The Library Intercept: To prove exactly how elite this dog is, officers hid actual cellphones deep inside the bookshelves of the school library. Onyx went straight to work, completely bypassing the books and successfully sniffing out the hidden digital devices. If a suspect tries to hide a burner phone or a flash drive, Onyx will absolutely find it.
